American actor and musician Awkwafina was the first to debut her sly songs that dealt with sexuality and racial identities with a an incisive and humorous perspective, before expanding her reach into Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese-Korean immigrants in Forest Hills Queens. Her initial exposure to music stemmed via the trumpet. Also, she received instruction in jazz and classical before becoming a hip-hop teenager. At college, she was studying journalism and women's studies. It was also during this time that she spent one semester studying Mandarin while in Beijing. It wasn't until after graduating that she turned her attention to music. After gaining viral fame through the Internet and her own song My Vag was a reaction to Mickey Avalon's My Dick. It eventually made its way onto her album debut Yellow Ranger. It also contained hit songs with viral appeal, like the body positive Queef and the winking tour of her hometown the city of New York Bitche$. The latter was connected to Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide for 2015, which was a travel guide. She began pursuing acting as a profession following her completion of two endeavors, author and musician. Alongside early series such as Girl Code, Tawk and Bad Rap she also appeared in films such as Neighbors in Storks. The actress made headlines during the year 2018, appearing in a handful of prominent films, like Dude Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. The EP came out in June.
